Adele‘s much anticipated third studio album, 25, is scheduled for release this Friday, November 20, through XL Recordings. Up until now, the sultry singer has released one single, the haunting “Hello,” which is shattering records left and right and currently closing in on 400 million YouTube views. Today, she released a video for the song, “When We Were Young,” a soaring anthem of young love captured via an intimate in-studio taping with her band at London’s The Church Studios.
Speaking to SiriusXM on Monday, November 16, Adele explained the song, co-produced with Tobias Jesso Jr., this way: “It was based on us being older, and being at a party at this house, and seeing everyone that you’ve ever fallen out with, everyone that you’ve ever loved, everyone that you’ve never loved, and stuff like that, where you can’t find the time to be in each other lives. And you’re all thrown together at this party when you’re like 50, and it doesn’t matter and you have so much fun and you feel like you’re 15 again. So that’s the vibe of it really.”
In the video, we see Adele and crew mulling for the shoot, hear a delicate piano intro, and watch as the singer steps to the mike and cracks her soul open wide, soaring over the lyrics, “It was just like a movie/It was just like a song.”
25 is available for pre-order via iTunes.
