If you are an animal lover, it no doubt pains you to think of all the wonderful animals stuck in shelters awaiting adoption.
Well, one animal lover has decided to do something to help make the lives of some furry friends just a little bit better. Kim Pacini-Hauch wants to make sure that every animal has an opportunity to enjoy a good home and a forever family, so she volunteered to pay for every single adoption from Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California, through the end of the year.
Pacini-Hauch will cover the fee for every adoptive family from now until 2017 in order to ensure that no animal is forced to go without a good home due to the high costs of adoption.
Adopting an animal can cost anywhere from $50-$200, depending on the region and whether you are adopting a cat or a dog. Dogs tend to be more expensive.
Pacini-Hauch’s sweet and powerful gesture has already made a huge difference in the lives of the animals at Front Street Shelter. After the shelter announced that adoption fees would be waived thanks to her generosity, all of the cats in the shelter were quickly adopted, along with 21 of the shelter’s dogs.
If Pacini-Hauch’s incredible donation has you thinking of ways you can give to animals as well, check out some of these ideas:
1. Donate food, litter, blankets, or toys to a local shelter.
Check with the shelter beforehand to see what they most need. In some cases, used items are acceptable, such as old food bowls or scratching posts.
2. Donate to the ASPCA.
If you have an animal lover on your holiday gift list, you could purchase a yearly donation in their name. It will be a meaningful way to help animals all year long, and it will be so much more worthwhile than another holiday scarf or candle from the mall.
The Monster Holiday Drive helps raise funds and collect needed items for more than 150 shelters and rescue organizations across the United States.
