Former president Bill Clinton has a new book coming out next year, and already a “heated battle is brewing in Hollywood” over who will acquire the book’s film rights.
The President Is Missing is expected to be available in June 2018. Clinton has already written three books since he left the Oval Office in January 2001, but this will be the first one adapted to film and producers are already reported to be vying for rights to the deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clinton and the book’s author, James Patterson, will be going to Hollywood this week to meet with interested producers in person, including J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg, Steve Bing and George Clooney.
A 10-page proposal was reportedly sent out to top producers and buyers on Monday, but not everyone who received the proposal will get a meeting with Clinton and Patterson.
The project is reportedly being treated as “top secret,” and details on the book’s plot are not being revealed. A clue was given in a May 8 statement that simply said the book will reveal “insider details that only a president can know.”
Movie rights are being handled by Creative Artists Agency’s Richard Lovett.

Someone who is already curious about the plot asked in a Twitter post: “I wonder who they will chose [sic] to play Monica?”
Oh cool. President Clinton’s life. I wonder who they will chose to play Monica. I am sure Lena Dunham is available.
