Back in September, the lead dancer in the “Hotline Bling” video—also known as Drake—released his first Air Jordan collaboration. It was a sleek white leather and stingray version of the Jordan X and, as expected, the sneaker sold out in mere seconds. (Pairs are currently available at Flight Club, though be warned, they start at $750.) We’re sure Drake felt the collective sigh (after all, the man does feel for a living) of sneakerheads everywhere who missed out on the first drop and we can only assume that’s why he’s bringing out a another version of the premium Jordan. News broke today that the blacked-out sneaker is set to drop next year, though an official date is still unconfirmed.
Between this news and the constant rollout of Yeezys, it’s clear that the worlds of sneaker rivalries and rap beefs are slowly colliding. While Kanye’s original designs still have the upper hand on these OVO Jordans, Drake’s take on the Xs is certainly better than your average celebrity sneaker collaboration. In other words, the 6 God is no sneaker god yet, but the stingray was a nice touch, Drizzy.
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any additional information regarding this sneaker’s release. In the meantime, we’ll be practicing this move in the rare case we get our hands on a pair next year.
