Ellen Presents Amazing Teacher With Giant Surprise

When she’s not blogging for the ‘net, June loves cuddling with her cats and reading in her library at home.

Rachel Faust is a young teacher from Miami. She’s a first-grade teacher at a school where most of the students come from low-income families. Ninety-nine percent of them are below the poverty line.

One day, she noticed a 6-year-old student kept putting her head on her desk during class. Rachel pulled her out into the hallway and began to chastise her for being unfocused.

But then the girl said something in return that gave Rachel a huge wake-up call: “I’m so sorry Ms. Faust, I’m just so hungry. I missed breakfast and we haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday.”

The words hit her like a ton of bricks. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to hear a little girl say this.

Rachel went on to help the school set unprecedented records and continued to teach her students with unbridled positivity. While she couldn’t control what happened to the students outside the classroom, she knew her actions in the classroom could make an impact.

Ellen DeGeneres is always looking to focus her shows on people who are making a difference. When she heard about Rachel, she knew she needed to meet her. And not only that — she wanted to reward Rachel with a jaw-dropping surprise.
