It all has to do with shaving with the grain.
Former NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett has been tangled up in controversy for weeks now. No, not because of anything the baller known as The Big Ticket, a world-historical trash-talker, said or did. Rather, KG’s in the news because the man has what seems to be a magical hoodie: one whose hood clings to his head in ways that seem to defy the laws of gravity. Some have speculated that KG is actually taping his hoodies to his head, which if true would be one of the more bizarre “style hacks” of all-time (if you can even call it that). But the tape theory isn’t all that farfetched—just look at this video and these photos and tell us you don’t think there’s something really strange happening with KG’s hood:
And then, late last month on his online show Area 21, Kevin Garnett revealed the secret to his anti-gravity hood. According to Garnett, “When you shave, you fresh…if you go against the grain you’ll feel it’s like sandpaper so it won’t go nowhere.” Anyone who’s ever shaved will know what he means. Unless you shave against the grain (after a proper with the grain shave to avoid massive irritation), your face or head will never feel completely smooth. Given that hoodies are made of knit fabrics, it’s feasible that the hood could cling to KG’s stubble and stick, kind of like built-in velcro on your head.
But that’s feasible, not probable. In one video where the hoodie actually does fall off of his head, KG appears to press the hood back to exactly the same position it was before it fell off his head. But to avoid going full KG Hoodie Truther on the subject, all we’ll say is that Garnett’s desire to wear his hoods on the back of his head and over one ear is worth talking about anyway. Seriously, who does that?
