Leave it to the fashion’s world’s best and brightest to swerve hard on this red carpet.

Unlike most red carpet shows, the British Fashion Council’s annual Fashion Awards has the advantage of taking place in December when suiting tends to be both formal and, in many cases for a fashion awards show, extremely daring. This, in addition to the fact that the attendees are fashion designers, models, and muses, tends to make for an A+ red carpet. Last year Demna Gvasalia showed up in his finest dad gear and the year before that, Lucky Blue Smith wore a holographic tuxedo. This year Charlie Heaton stole the show in a shiny yellow bomber and, well, we’ll let you see the rest for yourself. Among a sea of models and tastemakers in couture gowns, here are the guys who caught our eye with their festive finest. Can your holiday party fit do that?

Basic Black, with a Twist

Charlie Heaton and Virgil Abloh executed the same style move in completely different ways. Both guys reached for slick black formalwear throwing one unexpected piece in the mix to make things more personal and also showoff-y. For Heaton it was his bright yellow Coach jacket, for Abloh it was his own Nike sneakers. Choose yours just as wisely.

Timeless Tuxes

Of course, this is England so there were plenty of guys this year who skipped grail-worthy pieces in favor of rich-guy tuxedos, tailored to perfection. Stormzy kept things simple and minimalist in a peak lapel jacket and plain white shirt—although his gold watch added a little opulence. Model Oliver Cheshire, meanwhile, turned the gentleman vibes up by opting for a tux with shawl collar and a vest underneath. Given the state of things up top, shiny patent loafers were the only way to go.

Swanky Suits

What do an MMA fighter, a pop singer, and race car driver have in common? A predilection for showoff, “I’m in charge here” tailoring. The kind that most guys would hesitate to slip on, if only because it can tricky to pull off. Here’s our advice: If you’re wearing a suit in a bold color or pattern, let it take the stage. McGregor and Smith did this excellently. As for Lewis Hamilton, well, he’s the number one Formula One driver in the world and his date was Donatella Versace, he can get away with more that most.
