The checkered canvas kicks just dropped in a new multi-scale check you’ll wear all season long.
Checkered Vans sneakers are no longer just the official shoe of Reel Big Fish fans and Sean Penn cosplay fits; they’ve also found new life as actual fashion, thanks to co-signs from the likes of stylish influencers like A$AP Rocky, Brooklyn Beckham, and Justin Bieber. Even Frank Ocean who wore a pair to the White House state dinner back in 2016. The checkered sneakers are now as a much of a staple in high school hallwaysas they are on the streets of SoHo or even the red carpet.
To give a fresh spin on the decades-old shoe, Vans decided to give their iconic Old Skool silhouette a new “mix check” pattern. (We’ve been talking about the resurgence of this timeless sneaker since 2016 and we won’t stop now!) The classic lace-up skate shoe features a fresh twist on the legendary Vans print that mixes both micro and macro checkerboard patterns. The suede-and-canvas sneaker, complete with reinforced toe-caps and rubber waffle outsoles comes off as flashy without being too loud (that’s the right kind of mix). The “mix checker” pattern also comes in the classic slip-on, too, if that’s more your speed.
Since these kicks are already mixing two patterns, you’re going to want to wear ’em with outfits that lean towards the neutral side of things (202-level: go the the monochromatic route). The one-two combo of Van’s hottest sneaker model (the Old Skool) and the brand’s buzziest print (the checkerboard) make for one swervy sneaker that let’s any guy embrace his inner skate rat/ska fan/A$AP mob member. Just remember not to go full Spicoli on everyone when you’re wearing them.
